EDUCATING Cambourne

7th May 2006

It was reported by our County Councillor at last nights Parish council meeting that the County Council are planning that by the year 2021 there will be 8000 homes in Cambourne, following the development of Bourn Airfield and higher densities in the remaining Cambourne footprint.

Plans are being made for a secondary school for 1500 pupils, but not up to 6th form level , this would be covered by Impington and Netherhall School. (This part may have changed to provide 6th form in Cambourne).

This expansion flies in the face of the latest government policy of only building new developments where there is already the infrastructure to cope with extra homes and SCDC who's policy says that the development of Northstowe will provide the needed expansion apart from a possible increase of 700 extra to a total of 4000 in Cambourne.

So if you purchased a house in Cambourne on the promise of a rural village then you were indeed misled.

The money provided by the developers from your sales in expanding Comberton Village College will in this event not benefit Cambourne when the new school is built.

County Concillor Lister Wilson also mentioned that provision is being made in Cambourne for a childrens centre, one of twenty two that will be built for the Cambs area.

Comment

There is no reason that the proposed new area of houses should be referred to as Cambourne.
and this should be resisted.

South Cambs are opposing the expansion of Cambourne having won an appeal by the developer who wanted 4850 homes in Cambourne (original 3000) but are allowing 4000 anyway which is not logical. Not suprisingly developers are pushing for more. They always win................

Apparently more homes are occupied each year in Cambourne than anywhere else in the country.
