U-turn driver is sought by police

Published on 11 December 2003

A MOTORIST who drove on the wrong side of the road and caused two accidents on the A428 near Cambourne yesterday is being sought by police.

It is believed the driver of a green Vauxhall Astra, who caused the smashes after apparently carrying out a U-turn in foggy conditions, could have been in his 60s or 70s with a female pensioner in the front passenger seat and passengers in the back.

The driver, who had been heading towards Cambridge at about 11am, suddenly turned and headed for St Neots on the eastbound carriageway after causing two drivers to swerve to avoid a collision.

A red Fiesta, driven by a 24-year-old Papworth Everard resident, and a red Mercedes A140 driven by a 54-year-old woman from Eynesbury, were damaged, though no-one was hurt.

Ring police on (01480) 456111 or Crimestoppers on (0800) 555111.
