BOY RACERS
Update from Chris Bradley - Community Beat Officer
"We had information from Morrisons who received a flyer indicating that another event would take place last night (3/3/04) I was a little sceptical about it and as it turned out was probably a hoax. However, we did arrange with Morrisons for a contingency which you may have witnessed. I don't want to go into the full details of the contigency but as you could see some of it was visible. I fully appreciate the concerns of the residents and I will do what I can to keep the peace. These particular events are becoming more popular and they are relatively easy to deal with if we know they are going to happen. We can arrange with Morrisons (or whoever) to refuse entry. Once in though, they are difficult to deal with. I think even if we had attended with 5 Police cars it would still have been difficult. I would therefore urge people to let us know if they have any information about it prior to the event.
Morrisons have not given anyone permission to meet there. I have been in consultation with Kevin Gilbert who is happy with the Police assistance. I think some of the critisism against Morrisons is a little unfair and I am sure they are as keen as I am to keep everyone in the village happy.
With regard to the helicopter, I have explored this and indeed we were covering on Sunday and it was available. This will be a call for the officers on the ground and in future if it is felt that the aircraft can be of some use, it could be requested. If there is nothing more urgent it may well attend. I see my comments about the helicopter are on there and I did say that if Essex were covering I think it unlikely they would come from Chelmsford, I still think this is the case.
We must also consider all the residents of Cambourne and from past experience I would expect some complaints about the helicopter waking young children up. The air support unit are regularly the brunt of complaints about noise and when people are told "we were looking for a burglar in your area" most understand.
I have no doubt if it did come out Sunday there would be some comments on the forum against it!
I am fully committed to doing all I can for Cambourne and it's residents. I will continue to monitor the forum as I think it is interesting to see what people are thinking. My email address is fully available and if people have particular concerns they are welcome to email me direct."

Chris has offered to take part in an on line question and answer by email to my web site soon, so if you have questions email them to me. roger.hume@ntlworld.com
You will need to provide a name and address, not for publication to verify authenticity. There are too many spoof names to run this on a forum It is very encouraging that this matter is being dealt so thoroughly.

Thanks Chris and others at Morrisons
