THE SCHEME HAS BEEN PUT BACK ON FOR 2005 START DETAILS LINK
CONTRACTORS have been appointed. to carry, out improvements to a busy stretch of the A428 through Cambridgeshire, the Highways Agency has announced It is hoped work to provide 4.8 miles of dual carriageway between Caxton Common and Hardwick will improve safety, cut collisions and tackle congestion. Alongside the dual carriageway, contractors Edmund Nuttall Ltd of Camberley, Surrey will also install a major junction at Hardwick, the Highways Agency said. Work is expected to start by the end of 2004 The contractors will also build a new dual carriageway bypass at Great Barford on the A421 in Bedfordshire, linking the Bedford Southern to the Al at the Black Cat The schemes will cost a total of £79 million. Source Cambridge Evening News 3rd April 2004 The route will cut through the edge of the Bourn Aifield and then farmland on the Dry Drayton side linking to the already dualled A14/A428 The original A428 will be re-opened for local traffic, buses and cycles with a flyover accross the new road linking to Hardwick and Madingley Hill route to Cambridge, Caldecote and Bourn will use the old road to access the new road at Hardwick or Cambourne |
