++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I
am very pleased to say we have a new volunteer
Possible Second co-ordinator or driver
Jenny Leung from Great Cambourne
We
still need more Drivers
The scheme is designed to help people who are unable to drive and have physical
problems that make it difficult to get about easily to such things as hospital,
dentist
and social appointments .
Unfortunately
the scheme could not cope with a regular daily or even weekly requirement
s for trips to day care centres or the like which would be too demanding
for volunteers and covered by other services.
The passenger will be asked to pay the driver 30p per mile from the driver's
door to
the agreed destination and then back to the driver's home again.
There
is a minimum charge of £2.50
If you can give some time to this very
worthwhile community scheme, please contact one of the team members listed
below
Meanwhile, if you live in Cambourne and would like to drive for the scheme
we would
be delighted to hear from you. There is no cost to you but you must undergo
a CRB
check which we will organise - again at no cost to yourself. Then when driving
you
receive the 30p per mile from the passenger + later a 15p per mile subsidy/top
up
from the County Council. Also whilst driving an agreed passenger you are covered
by CCC insurance, you will also get a volunteer parking permit.
So - if you do feel like joining us either as a volunteer driver,
user or as part of the
Cambourne admin team. Just ring one of the numbers below and we will do our
best
to help!

- New drivers always
welcome your car expenses are covered (45p per mile) and parking

will not cover this
for
named

a standard letter provided. You are not allowed to go anywhere
off route you are only covered to do the arranged journey.
If
there is a long wait you can claim for 2 journeys, you will
have to fill in a form to get a CRB check and parking badge.

Community
car schemes provide door-to-door transport for people who cannot
make
the journey by car, by bus or dial-a-ride, for whatever reason and includes
social events, if you qualify for Addenbrook's transport you should use that
(your GP can confirm if you are eligable) as it is currently free, or
dial a ride which has become cheaper recently
If
you have a need for the service get in touch as above but it may
take some time for this new scheme to get off the ground properly.
If
you have a disabled badge we can make use of it so it should be brought
along.
Examples,
doctors appointmants in other villages, Hitchinbrook Hospital and
other regional hospitals, shopping, social events. Even local journeys,
but should not be treated like a cheap taxi service, only the journey
agreed is covered.
You cannot rely on any help from the driver such
as getting in or out of the car or carrying anything but you can
bring a carer.
If
the journey involves long waits of perhaps more than an hour or two
a second trip may be required, charges start from the drivers home
so we
will
try
to
get a driver
near to
you if possible, estimated costs can be quoted.
A
hospital scheme is available by asking at Monkfield Medical
Practice, they will ask your doctor to approve the use of the Addenbrokes/
Hitchinbrooke free scheme. You may have a longer wait and a shared
lift with this service. |
