South Cambs have revised their part of the tax
A combination of South Cambs increasing their part of the Council tax by 100% (from £70 PA to £140), and the needs of our Parish Council has pushed our tax up by 13.6% overall http://www.scambs.gov.uk/scambs/council.nsf/pages/cltaxa-f.html Questions need to be asked of South Cambs as the number of (equivalent band D) homes that our tax is based on has shot up from 1286 to 1757, an extra 471 A more likely figure is 250 to 300 in one year Now we know that figure is very much a guess, SCDC have to predict a
likely number, so did they under estimate last year ? If they did it means that more money was raised last year than they gave the Parish Council. Cambourne Council Tax is now (probably) the highest in the whole region, it was always thought that we would have the highest in South Cambs but we do not have to pay for maintenance for the first year of handover, and I am sure nothing has been handed over yet. A letter in the Cambridge News at the weekend pointed out the Parish are charging more than SCDC charged last year ! Budget from the Cambourne Parish Council website on 24th February Cambridge City have increased their band D tax by 4% to £1166.52 Sawston is the largest village in South Cambs and have traditionally been the highest in South Cambs is now £1246.49 (Band D) Melbourne is a similar size village to us and is now £1,246.32 (Band D) Huntingdon District Council - Highest - Bluntisham has set a Parish precept of £112.59 - total of £1248.73 (Band D) Link to 2005/6 Ely is likely to be £1179.90, with £115.47 going to the district Minutes |
