District Council and Parish Council Elections - 3 May 2007

On Thursday 3 May 2007, elections will take place for 19 of SCDC's 57 seats and for all seats on 30 parish councils, along with a casual election for three seats on Cambourne Parish Council. Almost two thirds of South Cambridgeshire's electorate will be eligible to vote.

Nominations have now closed and the Statement of Persons Nominated for both District and Parish elections has been published (attached).

Poll cards will be sent to all eligible voters in mid-April. If you think you are eligible to vote, but do not receive a poll card, please call 08450 455 214 to check that you are registered. You do not need a poll card to vote, as long as you are registered.

If you would like to apply for a postal vote, download our postal vote application form or call 08450 455 214. Forms must be returned to SCDC by 5pm on 18 April.

Election changes

This election is the first test of changes made by the Electoral Administration Act, aimed to make voting more accessible and more secure. So, what does this mean for you?

·                      In a bid to combat fraud, all postal votes will now be subject to signature checking.

·                      Candidates' ages - while there is no upper age limit for candidates to stand for election, the lower age limit has now been changed from 21 to 18.
