The best yet seemed to be the general comment from attendees to the fifth Cambourne Festival weekend, the weather was excellent which helps !
A 140 foot x 40 foot marquee was used all weekend, sponsored by the Developers in Cambourne.
Friday evening saw the residents family evening, starting off with a disco for the youngest members of the Community. Saturday kicked off at lunch time with a village fete where the event was offically opened by our MP Andrew Lansley. There were over 40 stalls from all the groups in Cambourne, a mini funfair and of course a bar ! There was a traditional children's sports event run by Cambourne's new youth worker Emily. A childrens mini fun fair and all the usual ice cream and candy floss stalls. The artist who has been commissioned to design the Cambourne village markers was in attendance to gauge opinions on the proposed garden tool markers. The Army had a small presence with a promotion vehicle. Cambourne Rovers Football team ran a "Beat the Goalie" competition. The Q103 "Black Thunder" was also present presenting a radio program live. The Cambourne pre school group launched over 500 balloons raising money to set up a new facilty in Cambourne to start in September. Campbell's from the Cambourne Business Park provided a cricket net, which they have presented to the community to enable our cricketers to practice in anticipation of our first cricket pitch which unfortunately has been delayed again for another 2 years. The local childrens Ark dance group and Maypole dancing by the Cambourne Brownies gave excellent displays. Churches Together in Cambourne ran a traditional tea stall and also had a model for the new church building, as well as plans for the proposed second (possibly) church run school in Cambourne Saturday evening saw another social evening where we were entertained with a brilliant disco by local resident Jody Thorne, assisted by Dan and Karis. and another excellent (mostly) local band "Fresh". Food Catering for the weekend as in recent years was provided by a local company "The Trailer of Life". Well done to the organiser Andy weeks and the team of residents who did a stirling job organising the event, and clearing up afterwards. Next year the festival committee may make a request to make use of the new Community Centre currently being constructed, possibly smaller events with a wider remit all subject to agreement with the management committee, so it is (in my view) likely to be the last festival event all on one site. The winner of the Tim Brinton Peugeot competition from the Festival is David Turner from 14 Apley Way and he has won a 206cc for a weekend of his choice. Hope we were a help on the day and we’re looking forward to contributing next year if you’ll have us. Thanks again Rob Gyford Marketing Co-ordinator More will be added to this item when I get some more feedback. |
