A VERY ENJOYABLE EVENING ORGANISED BY DEDICATED MEMBERS OF THE CAMBOURNE RESIDENT ASSOCIATION AND AIDED BY OTHER RESIDENTS WAS HELD ON SATURDAY 9TH NOVEMBER THE EVENT WAS STAGED IN THE CAMBOURNE COUNTRY PARK, WITH LAKE EWART AS A BACKDROP, FIREWORK REFLECTIONS IN THE LAKE BEING SO IMPRESSIVE A HUGE NUMBER OF RESIDENTS ATTENDED THE "FREE ENTRY" EVENT AND A BRILLIANT DISPLAY WAS PROVIDED BY CHRIS LINCOLN AND PETER DRAKE AIDED BY ESSEX PYROTECHNICS. HAVING NOW BEEN FULLY TRAINED IT IS HOPED THAT PETE AND CHRIS WILL BE ABLE TO DO IT ON THEIR OWN NEXT YEAR, A PARTICULARLY IMPRESSIVE "FLOATING" FIREWORK FEATURED A SPECTACULAR BONFIRE STARTED THE EVENT ORGANISED BY LOUISE ROWLEY-SPENDLOVE AND CHRIS LINCOLN, AIDED BY A TEAM OF HELPERS AND "DISGUSTINGLY" GOOD TIMBER FROM THE BUILDERS IN CAMBOURNE ! CATERING WAS PROVIDED TO A HIGH STANDARD BY MR BURGERS FROM CAMBRIDGE, WHO HAD AN EXCELLENT SELECTION OF FOOD AND CATERED WELL TOO FOR VEGETARIANS APPARENTLY, THE FIRST AID COVER WAS PROVIDED BY ST JOHNS AMBULANCE SERVICE. THE GUMBLE FAMILY PROVIDED A SMALL FAIRGROUND.
WE ARE PLEASED TO REPORT THE EVENT WAS PROBABLY SELF FINANCING, PEOPLE WERE VERY GENEROUS, A COLLECTION WAS HELD TO ENSURE WE HAVE A SIMILAR EVENT NEXT YEAR. THE CLEAR UP ON SUNDAY MORNING WAS A BIT MORE OF A PROBLEM AS THE PREVIOUS DAYS SUN AND NO WIND WAS REPLACED OVERNIGHT BY RAIN AND HIGH WINDS, NO HOUSE ROOFS LOST THIS TIME BUT THE CROSS KEYS MARQUEE HAD TO BE RETRIEVED WHEN IT BLEW INTO THE LAKE. FORTUNATELY CAMBOURNE RESIDENT PAUL McCOMBES DONNED A DRY SUIT AND WADED INTO THE LAKE (ORDERS ARE BEING TAKEN FOR THE FISH CAUGHT WHEN THE COVER WAS HAULED OUT). WELL DONE PAUL ! HENRY AT THE CROSS KEYS CAXTON WILL NO DOUBT REWARD YOU WITH A FEW FREE DRINKS. :-) FORTUNATELY THE CRA MARQUEE REMAINED INTACT AND WAS RESCUED EARLY SUNDAY MORNING, THE SIDES AND ENDS BEING REMOVED AT 7-30 AM TO PREVENT THE WIND TAKING IT TO A SIMILAR FATE AS THE OTHER. A SINCERE THANK YOU TO ALL WHO MADE THIS EVENT POSSIBLE, ESPECIALLY THIS YEAR WHEN INSURANCE PROBLEMS AT THE EARLY STAGES OF ORGANISATION, MADE IT LOOK AS IF IT WOULD HAVE TO BE CANCELLED. Dear Roger, We wish to congratulate the team for an excellent firework display last night. Please pass on our thanks and congratulations to all concerned. We often believe people do not realise how much hard work and co-ordination goes into such a project. Our thanks once again. Paul, Lesley & Seb. I did thank Roger Hume last night for the excellent display, but I'd like to repeat it in public. The children appreciated both the fireworks and the funfair, which kept them happy for the whole visit. The CRA should be commended, especially for the extra lighting supplied in a wet field, allowing us to return home unscathed! Tithe I simply want to say thank you to all who were involved in the wonderful display on Saturday night, both me and my wife enjoyed it and the massive fire in a major way. Great news that it seems to have broken even - I look forward to next year's display with baited breath Dave My partner and I were unable to attend this year's display but we were able to catch a glimpse of the bonfire (raging inferno would be a better description!) and some of the more higher reaching fireworks, from our patio windows. From what we managed to see of the display, we would like to make a contribution towards next year's display. How can we do this? Can we make a payment by cheque (if so, we do we make it payable to) or if sending cash, where can we send it to? Well done to all those involved - it was a spectacular display !! Z Cheques payable to the Cambourne Residents Association Andrew Weeks 13 Elm Tree Close, Telephone 205791_________ andy_weeks@ntlworld.com Treasurer ![]()
