| We approached the clay problem by digging out areas for planting and raising beds. The rest was turfed.
You will see that you need to think about drainage, I have a large soakaway by the patio but in very heavy rain like we have had it still floods a bit, but soon drains away. A french drain would have solved that but the drainage system in our garden was at the front/side of the house so not easily accesable.
If you email me privately I will tell you who did the ground work.
We had 5 tons of top soil for the raised bed, not expensive.
A bit out of date but a guide to top soil
http://www.cambourne.info/topsoil.html
The raised beds had a spade depth of clay removed (about 10inches).
I did the preparation, digging out the clay etc
Lower Cambourne is not so clay bound and as far as I know is ok.
Raised beds are easier to manage,
We had grass laid first and then planned it after we saw where the sun fell,
painting lines to see how it would look
The gravel areas were dug out a few inches, lined with a porous membrane to prevent weeds and gravel spread on top.
The plants are all in bottomless pots buried well into the clay ie through the membrane.
