WILDLIFE TRUSTS STOP PRESS Important information In the near future amphibian fencing will be erected by the ecologists who regularly work on the site and are responsible for protecting animals and plants for the ongoing development. This fencing is being erected around Lake Sirius, to the north of Whomping Willow Lake and at the eastern side of Jeavons Wood. It is being put there to protect great crested newts, a legally protected species, and other amphibians from getting on to the areas which will receive spoil during the construction of Upper Cambourne. Pitfall traps will also be placed around the eastern valley to catch the newts which will then be removed to safety. These traps will be checked daily. This part of the exercise will not take place until the spring when newts and other amphibians will be moving to ponds and lakes to breed. All this work is being carried out under a Natural England licence and will ensure that the newts will not be injured during the placement of the spoil and will be able to breed in safety. Please do not interfere with the fencing or the traps - this is for the safety of the animals.
