negative, I apologise for this and promise to only report good news in future.
We now have a wonderful purpose built Library Centre and Health Centre. This was high on our priority list when we first visited Cambourne and is a very welcome addition to our facilities. The Caxton by-pass is open and thankfully users of the A1198 are not using it - so the feared increase in traffic in School Lane did not happen ! So here is the rest of the News for December 2004 (updates April 2008) - The developers have announced they are abandoning their plans to build another 3359 homes and will stick to the original schedule to build only another 1800 as was originally planned, they now realise that the carefully negotiated original facilities would be inadequate. - South Cambs have taken Cambourne off the list of villages suitable as an expanding Rural centre and will not now be proposing an extra 700 homes to assist them to meet government targets. Actually they now want 4250, hmmm. - The shops on the high street are open and we have a post office, take away and pharmacy (we do now have a Pharmacy, Restaraunt and a takeaway,) - A pub has been built on the High Street (Now open) - The housing associations are to change their policy of moving some known problem families from Cambridge to Cambourne as they now realise they don't want to be here. - The Cambourne Cricket Club are enjoying having their own cricket pitch in Lower Cambourne. started playing - The Cambourne Rovers football team have stopped roving and are now playing on their own sports fields in Cambourne - Yes they are with temporary facilities - The Multi use games area has been extended to the correct length and tennis players are now able to play without colliding with the back fence. (Now done) - The village garden centre is now providing an excellent service to the keen Cambourne gardeners. A Focus Diy store was cancelled - The Trailer park is now operating - providing secure storage for caravans and trailers, house owners no longer have to keep their caravans on their own drive. now open - 2008 - The Community Centre is now providing the much needed community facilities. Now Open ! - Allotment holders are enjoying the "fruits" of their labours. Now Open ! - The burial ground is now up to standard and can become what was intended. - but you might float to the surface, a few drainage issues - report awaited - There is now a traditional weekly market on the market square. well Morrisons are trying to expand into the car park..... - Broadband is now available in every Cambourne Home. now here - Cable TV is available in all homes - All new homes are ready on time and built to a high standard - Lower Cambourne now has a recycling area - Lower Cambourne now has a new cricket pavillion yep - Plans have been submitted for the sports centre and it looks as if this will be built on schedule at 2000 homes, 2009 ? - Golfers can now play a round or two on the new golf course - A local farmer has purchased the first paddock in Cambourne and is intending to breed pigs for flying. Still we now also have the trading standards office in Cambourne too. |
