SCDC are in the middle of delivering the latest consignment of black bin bags around a village. Some villagers have apparently complained that they had run out. When asked about this SCDC said that they are now only issuing 60 bags a year, in two deliveries at around 6 monthly intervals. The reason for this reduction is that the green box scheme is designed to encourage us all to recycle, thus we should need less black bags.

This may all become academic soon however. A Parish Council were told during their last meeting that SCDC are proposing to introduce a wheelie bin system: a black bin for ordinary waste and a green one for materials to be composted, including garden waste and cardboard. The green box recycling scheme would continue.

It seems they are proposing alternate collections, so your ordinary bin will only be collected once a fortnight, this idea was soon abondoned in Cambridge due to the problems of rotting rubbish for two weeks.

Also they are proposing NOT owning your bin, so you get back a different bin each week.
Anyone who has used wheelie bins will be horrified at that prospect in the same way as we always seem to get back the dirty bins from the green collection boxes now.

. Some people will not want to separate their waste so will simply put all their rubbish in the green bin one week and the black the next and thus contaminate the green bin stream.

- Which lead one to the conclusion that for this to work they need to collect both bins every week.
