Good morning all,
I apologise for the issues raised surrounding opening times/custome
service. Although led to believe that this was on our website
by an external company, this proved not to be the case.
With regards to booking the induction, all staff on this morning
have been booking inductions all week, so I will discuss with
them why they failed to do this this morning.
To clarify:
Today: 10am-8pm (although we let people in at 8.30am)
Sat / Sun: 10am-6pm for our open weekend
We had a great opening day yesterday, with Hugh Robertson MP
officially opening the centre, and many of the local people instrumental
to the the build and opening of the centre in attendance.
We are having a massive open weekend this weekend, with free
activities including trampolining, dance sessions, group exercise
taster sessions, rock climbing, local club demo's/workshops,
and plenty more ffree activities or the family to try. We will
be having England and Aston Villa Footballer Darren Bent, with
Olympic Gymnast Beth Tweddle here on Sunday, bit giving time
to talk to the local community, and Beth will also be taking
a coaching workshop as well as giving a demo of gymnastic skills!
To book onto the activities call us on 0845 371 3580.
Please feel free to email me on karlsecker@everyoneactive.com if any issues such as the above arise, and I will deal with them
in a prompt and effective manner.
Many thanks and hope to see you over the weekend!
Karl.

MINISTER SAYS CAMBOURNE’S SPORTS CENTRE IS ‘ONE
OF THE BEST IN BRITAIN’
The Government’s Minister for Sports and The Olympics was
today (Thursday) full of praise for Cambourne’s sports
centre after declaring the £2.36 million facility officially
open.
Hugh Robertson MP said the new Everyone Active sports and
leisure centre was one of the best he had seen, and
congratulated Cambourne
Parish Council and leading housebuilders Taylor Wimpey and
Bovis Homes for working together effectively to provide the ‘fantastic’ public
facility.
“
I spend most of my time visiting sports facilities up and down
the country and I don’t think I have seen as good a new
one as this for a very long time,” said the minister.
“
When we won the right to host the 2012 Olympics, we did it on
the promise that we would not only lay on a great games, but
also that we were going to use those games to inspire more people
to play sport – and we simply couldn’t do that without
local facilities like this.
“
The great lesson here is that it shows how developers can work
with the local council to provide a fantastic new facility that’s
right on the doorstep for local people to use.”
The new sports centre in Back Lane was funded by Taylor
Wimpey and Bovis Homes as part of their commitment
to delivering exceptional community facilities alongside
thousands of
high-quality
homes
in Cambourne.
The entire £2.36 million cost of the build was met by the
housebuilders, Cambourne Parish Council provided
an additional £34,000
towards internal fixtures and fittings .
The
ownership is to be with Cambourne Parish Council.
Neville Stebbing, Taylor Wimpey and Bovis Homes’ Project
Director for Cambourne, said it was thanks to great
teamwork that the facility had been completed almost a year
to the day
since preliminary work began at the site began in November
2010.
“
This fabulous new sports centre epitomises the achievement of
the team that inspired, designed, built and will manage it,” he
said.
“ By working together with Cambourne Parish Council, South Cambridgeshire
District Council and the people of Cambourne, we have produced
something that is as close to perfection as anyone could have
imagined.
“ Now I hope the spirit of the team will continue as people come
together from across the community to enjoy this
wonderful facility, which is here to keep everyone active in Cambourne.”
The new centre features a spacious four-court sports
hall which covers an area of nearly 600 sq m,
as well as a fully
equipped
gym and a separate dance studio. It also includes
changing rooms, a meeting/reception area, full
disabled access,
plus 144 car
parking spaces and 60 cycle parking spaces outside.
Construction of the new facility was carried out
by main contractor RG Carter Thetford Ltd, and
it is being
managed
by specialist
leisure firm Sports and Leisure Management Ltd
(SLM), under the ownership of Cambourne Parish
Council.
South Cambridgeshire
District
Council and Sport England were also heavily involved
in the design and planning of the project.
Clayton Hudson, Chairman of Cambourne Parish
Council, added: “This
facility means a great deal to the people of Cambourne, and in
my opinion, it is the jewel in the crown of developer-provided
facilities in this community.
“
Our own MP Andrew Lansley turned the first sod when construction
started in January, and I am pleased to stand here today to oversee
the opening – on schedule – of this amazing centre
which surpasses my own high expectations.”
Cambourne is a new settlement to the west of
Cambridge which is being jointly created by
Taylor Wimpey
and Bovis Homes,
and currently comprises about 3,200 occupied
homes, with a further
100 properties under construction.
A new phase of development will see the community
grow to a total of 4,250 homes, plus public
open spaces
and community
facilities
set within the 405-hectare site.
