Developers get it wrong again ! Remember the statement from the developers in their glossy brochure ? Cambourne Sports Provision The Council has advised the developers about a list of defects relating to the tennis courts and artificial turf multi use games area and is waiting for a response and action on each item. Some remedial work has already taken place but the facilities will not be accepted by the Council until they are considered fit for purpose and all outstanding defects put right. We are aware that the tennis courts at Cambourne currently do not meet Lawn Tennis Association standards as there is insuffi- cient run off at the back of the courts. The Council is in discussion with the Developers and also the LTA to look at what needs to be done to rectify this problem. With the co-operation of all parties we hope that any necessary remedial work will be done as quickly as possible. The artificial grass multi use games area has been designed specifically for football and that means that the surface is not really suitable for tennis - but can be used for mini tennis if required. The area needs regular maintenance to ensure that it is performing properly and the Council is in discussion with the developers to consider this and other general aspects relating to the design, to ensure that the area meets the needs of local people. The new grass pitches behind the tennis courts have been inspected by the Council's expert consultant and it has been agreed that the pitches will not be ready for use until September 2005, as they need another year to become properly established. Following a second site inspection it has been agreed by all parties that the cricket square in Lower Cambourne is unaccept- able and the only option is to relay it. This work will be done under the supervision of the Councils expert from the Institute of Groundsmanship and it is expected that the square will not now be usable until the 2006 cricket season.
