The cost of replacing the Cambourne Clay is quite variable. Tilbrooks are on site working for the developers, but deliver from Bury St Edmunds and charge around £30 for a ton or about £80 for 4 tons, up to 2 weeks for delivery though (split loads possible) but are not really interested in small loads, failed to ring me back with price and delivery - gave up after waiting 3 days. - telephone 01638 712766 G & A Cornwall charge similar amounts 70 + vat for 4 tons, around £100 + vat for 10 tons (will split deliveries) They also do small bags of 30 litres for around £2, 2 or 3 days for delivery - Telephone 01353 778069 Madingley Mulch charge around £44 for a ton delivered in a large bag, most convenient but expensive, they do regular deliveries. A & M Ward seem to be generally good for service and price, they qoute in cu yards which means you get the same volume wet or dry and will deliver 1/2 cu yard for around £22.50 and £31.50 for 1 cu yard, 5 cubic yards is £90, and claim same day delivery (or as near as possible) inc vat - Telephone 01954 260110 - Top soil normally weighs around 85 lbs per cubic foot dry up to 105 lb very wet so a cubic yard normally weighs a fraction over a ton (dry) (3'x3'x3'x85=2295 lbs- 1 ton is 2240 lbs).
