Cambourne – A hidden charge
It has come to my attention that
each home in Cambourne gets their gas via an independent gas transporter (IGT).
Basically this means the gas comes through pipes owned by an independent
company.
This is rather than the normal method
via TRANSCO owned pipes and is now resulting in ALL Cambourne homes being
charged extra.
Recently gas suppliers such as Powergen started adding an extra “IGT” charge.
Checking my bills it seems this
IGT charge first appeared in September 2005 for £1.64 a quarter, presumably for
part of the period.
My latest bill in March and the latest June 2006 has a figure of £9.97
plus VAT for the quarter.
Powergen were covering
these charges from the normal gas pricing until last year
They are now billing
customers directly and is listed separately on your gas bill.
It results in a higher charge of £42 per annum whichever way you look
at it.
A Cambourne Tax
No matter how much gas you use,
these admin charges can rise without any price controls.
I have written to our MP to see if he was aware of this rip off.
This is now pointed out to new Powergen
customers but some companies are hiding it in the billing.
Looking back to a bill in 2000 when we moved here it states quite
clearly that the gas transportation company is TRANSCO unless otherwise stated,
and nothing else is stated.
This bill was from Eastern Energy which has transformed to Powergen
Our meter point references start
74 which means apparently that we have always been
supplied by an IGT.
Despite the original bills stating otherwise
